Fires It Can Handle

Class A and Class B.

• Class A: timber, paper, cardboard, textiles and furnishings.
• Class B: petrol, diesel, oils, paints and solvents, including polar solvent and alcohol type fuels.

Foam blankets the fuel surface and cuts the flame off from oxygen, then holds that seal as the film reseals across the surface. On Class A material it also soaks in and cools. The dual coverage is why foam suits sites where combustible stock and flammable liquids sit in the same area: workshops, paint shops, service centres, fuel stores, airfields, defence sites and race circuits.

Where Not to Use It

• Class C combustible gases
• Class D combustible metals
• Class E electrical: foam is water-based and conducts, so keep it away from live equipment
• Class F cooking oils and fats

Why Fluorine Free

Legacy AFFF, FFFP, protein and fluoroprotein foams contain PFAS. NSW restricts the use of portable fire extinguishers containing PFAS under the Protection of the Environment Operations (General) Regulation 2022, and other states run their own controls. If your site still holds foam extinguishers bought before the transition, identifying what is inside them comes before replacing them.Our concentrate is fluorosurfactant-free and fluoropolymer-free, using synthetic foam technology in place of the older chemistries. It has been tested against the fire performance criteria of EN 1568 Parts 3 and 4, and ICAO Levels B and C, and holds burn back resistance through its flow and resealing characteristics.

Mounting and Placement

Under AS 2444:

• Base at least 100mm clear of the floor
• Top of the handle no higher than 1,200mm
• For Class A risk, no more than 15 metres travel distance from any point on the floor, measured along the path a person walks
• Smaller units cannot be combined to substitute for one unit of the required rating

Signage Requirements

AS 2444 requires an identification sign above each extinguisher, mounted at 2 to 2.5 metres so the type and its fire classes are readable on approach. An extinguisher without a compliant sign fails the placement check regardless of the unit's own certification.

Servicing and Maintenance

Under AS 1851-2012:

• Six-monthly inspection by a competent person
• Yearly detailed service, including signage, location and bracket check
• Hydrostatic pressure test at five years
