Description

The CYG94 is a site carbon monoxide detector with a CO sensor and an A1R rate-of-rise heat element in one head. It runs on a lithium battery pack and connects to the SiteProtect wireless mesh. CO detection responds to smouldering combustion before a heat detector reaches its threshold and before an optical smoke detector sees enough particulate to alarm.

When to specify CO detection

Specify the CYG94 where a fire is likely to smoulder before it flames. Typical locations are temporary distribution boards, cable risers, plant rooms, timber storage near hot works, and rooms with LPG heating. Carbon monoxide is a product of incomplete combustion, and the sensor responds to it at the smouldering stage.

False alarm performance

A CO sensor doesn't respond to airborne particulate. Dust from cutting and grinding, steam from curing concrete, and plant exhaust don't trigger it. The A1R heat element confirms a temperature rise before the device alarms.

IPX0 rating restricts placement

The CYG94 is rated IPX0 and has no rated protection against water. Install it in internal or protected positions only: site huts, fit-out floors, risers, plant rooms, back-of-house areas and temporary accommodation. Don't install it on open decks, on scaffold, or in any position exposed to weather. Use the IP65 rated SiteProtect call points in those positions.

The CYG94 doesn't measure exposure

The CYG94 uses carbon monoxide as a fire signature. It isn't calibrated as a personal or atmospheric gas monitor, and it doesn't measure concentration against a workplace limit. Air monitoring for CO from generators, plant, concrete saws or LPG heating in enclosed areas is a separate duty and needs calibrated gas detection equipment. Australia replaces workplace exposure standards with workplace exposure limits on 1 December 2026, and the carbon monoxide value changes. Check your monitoring equipment against the new list before that date.

Temporary works equipment only

The SiteProtect range is temporary fire detection for the construction phase. The detector head is EN 54 certified, which is the European standard the manufacturer builds to. The device isn't for permanent incorporation into a finished building. It doesn't form part of an AS 1670.1 fire detection and alarm system, and a certifier won't accept it as one at handover. Construction-phase fire safety sits under your WHS duties, and Safe Work Australia's Construction work Code of Practice sets out the principal contractor's planning obligations.

Battery interval

The CYG94 battery pack lasts 12 months. The CYG44 smoke detector and CYG34 heat detector packs last two years. Schedule the CO detectors separately on any programme longer than 12 months.

Device selection across the range

Use the CYG94 in enclosed areas that carry both a smouldering fire risk and a false alarm problem. Use the CYG44 smoke detector in site accommodation and clean fit-out areas. Use the CYG34 heat detector in dusty and dirty areas. All three connect to the same mesh and report to the CYG14 control panel.
