Description

CYG34 Standalone heat detector device – PIR Motion Sensor Optional.

The CYG34 wireless heat detector uses a thermistor sensing element that responds when the temperature passes a preset threshold. It runs on a lithium battery pack, carries an 85 dB(A) internal siren, and joins the Cygnus radio mesh like every other device on the network. Choose it for the areas where airborne particles would keep a smoke detector in permanent false alarm.

Specifications

When heat detection beats smoke detection

Smoke detectors respond to particles in the air, and plenty of legitimate site activity puts particles in the air. Concrete cutting, welding, grinding, plant exhaust and general dust all read as smoke to an optical sensor. A workshop that false alarms twice a week ends up with the detector isolated, which leaves you with no detection at all. Heat detection ignores the dust and responds to the temperature, so the device stays armed.

Where the CYG34 suits the space

Fit heat detection in workshops and fabrication areas, plant and generator enclosures, fuel and chemical stores, kitchens and crib rooms, and anywhere with vehicle movement in an enclosed space. Fit smoke detection in the cleaner spaces where early warning matters more than nuisance immunity. Most sites need both, in different rooms.

Heat detection responds later than smoke detection

Heat detectors need a developed fire to reach threshold temperature, so they warn you later than a smoke detector would in the same room. Use that trade-off deliberately. Where a smoke detector can hold its position without nuisance alarms, it's the better choice. Where it can't, heat detection that stays armed beats smoke detection that someone has taped over.

Getting the alert off site

Pair the CYG34 with the CYG14-SMS control panel and activations text your after-hours contacts, including a security company if that's who holds your out-of-hours arrangement. Compare how detection reports across both platforms on our wireless alarm systems page.

Your emergency plan obligations

Regulation 43 of the model WHS Regulations requires you to prepare, maintain and implement an emergency plan. Safe Work Australia's guidance requires the emergency procedures to be tested at a stated frequency and requires you to plan for people with hearing, vision or mobility impairment. Detection choice feeds straight into that, because a device someone has isolated after too many false alarms isn't part of any plan.Call 1800 273 473 or email sales@checkpointgroup.com.au and we'll help you split heat and smoke detection across the site by area.
