Description

CYG44 Standalone smoke detector device – PIR Motion Sensor Optional.

The CYG44 wireless smoke detector runs on a lithium battery pack and joins the Cygnus radio mesh like any other device on the network. It carries an 85 dB(A) internal siren, so it sounds locally the moment it detects smoke and reports the activation to the control panel at the same time. Mount it vertically or horizontally, whichever the structure allows.

Where the CYG44 goes on site

Put detectors where combustible material sits and where nobody's watching. Site accommodation and lunch huts, storage containers holding timber or packaging, plant rooms, and any compound left unattended overnight. The unit sounds locally at 85 dB(A), which is enough to alert anyone in the immediate area without the volume of an evacuation call point.

Overnight cover depends on the panel you pair it with

On its own, the CYG44 sounds and tells the panel. Nobody's standing at the panel at 2am. Pair it with the CYG14-SMS control panel and the activation becomes a text message to whoever's on your after-hours list. If that list includes a security company, you get monitored response, and that arrangement sits between you and that company rather than with the equipment. The full Cygnus SiteProtect range shows which devices report through which panel.

Adding intruder detection to the same unit

The PIR motion sensor is an option on the CYG44. One device then covers fire detection during work hours and intruder detection once you arm the system. On a site where you're already fitting detectors in the huts and containers, that's the same mounting position doing two jobs. Our PIR motion sensor page covers how arming works.

What this device does and doesn't replace

Temporary wireless detection covers the construction phase and the gaps a permanent system doesn't reach yet. It isn't a substitute for a fire detection and alarm system designed and installed to AS 1670.1 where the National Construction Code requires one for the finished building. Confirm the scope with your fire engineer or certifier so the temporary system and the permanent design don't get confused on the compliance schedule.

Your emergency plan obligations

Regulation 43 of the model WHS Regulations requires you to prepare, maintain and implement an emergency plan. Safe Work Australia's guidance on emergency plan duties names a siren or bell alarm as the mechanism for alerting people to an emergency and requires you to test your procedures at a stated frequency. Detection is what triggers that alerting mechanism when nobody's there to press a call point.Call 1800 273 473 or email sales@checkpointgroup.com.au with your site layout, and we'll work out where detection earns its place.
