A UV resistant fire extinguisher cover keeps sun, dust and rain off a unit mounted outdoors. This is the large size, cut to suit 9kg ABE extinguishers and other large bodied units.

Why an Outdoor Extinguisher Needs One

Sunlight bleaches the operating label. A label nobody can read counts as a defect at routine service under AS 1851, for the same reason a missing label does, because the person holding the extinguisher cannot follow instructions that are no longer there.Rain and airborne salt start corrosion on the cylinder and around the valve. Corrosion takes a unit out of service permanently. Dust and grit work into the nozzle and around the pin.On a construction site the extinguisher often hangs off a scaffold upright or a site fence in full sun for the length of the job. Clear for a Reason

The cover is clear, so the band colour and the class markings stay readable through it. An opaque cover hides the thing AS 2444 asks you to keep identifiable, and it invites someone to grab a unit that suits the wrong fire.

Access Still Comes First

Fit the cover so it pulls away in one movement. Nothing over an extinguisher should add a step between someone seeing a fire and pulling the pin.Check the cover when you check the unit. Replace it once it goes brittle, cloudy or torn, because a cover that has gone milky defeats the point of a clear one.

• Large size, suits 9kg ABE and similar large bodied extinguishers
• A smaller cover suits 1kg to 4.5kg units
• Measure cylinder height and diameter where you are unsure

When a Cabinet Beats a Cover

A cabinet does more in a permanent outdoor position. It takes knocks, deters tampering and holds the identification signage in one place. Covers suit temporary positions, site work, vehicles and plant, where a cabinet would be over specified for a location that moves in a month.
