Description

The Touchscreen Control Unit is the management point for your Orisent wireless alarm system. It shows which devices are connected, which are powered, and who triggered what. You read that off the screen in real time. You don't call us to find out. Most safety alert systems can't answer the questions that matter. Has that siren on Level 3 dropped off the network? Did anyone test the system last month? Can we add two more triggers without booking a technician? The TCU answers all three.

Why device status is a compliance question

Under regulation 43 of the model WHS Regulations, you have to prepare, maintain and implement an emergency plan for your workplace. Maintaining it means the plan has to stay effective, not just exist in a folder.Safe Work Australia's emergency plans guidance treats the siren or alarm as the mechanism that alerts people. If a siren has been off the network for six weeks and nobody noticed, that mechanism isn't there. The plan is no longer effective, and you have no way to show when it stopped working. The TCU closes that gap. Devices check in on their own. The log records every test and every activation with a timestamp. When an auditor asks when you last tested, you export the log.

Running the system without calling your supplier

Place the TCU somewhere central and secure. The site office or front desk usually works. From there you can:
  • View any device's connectivity and power status
  • View system users and their activity
  • Add or edit users, names and passwords
  • Enable and connect new devices as the project grows
  • Set authority protocols so evacuations need approval
  • Adjust siren pattern and duration to suit the site
  • Test sirens
  • Trigger, respond to and end nurse call or evacuation events
  • Rename devices to match current site layout
  • Set up SMS notifications alongside the smartphone app
Renaming matters more than it sounds. A siren labelled "Siren 4" tells a warden nothing. "Level 2 East Stair" tells them where to go. On a construction site where levels change monthly, being able to rename in seconds keeps the system honest.

Connecting the TCU

You can run the TCU on your internal network only, or link it to our cloud server. Connecting it gives you three things: system data synced to the cloud, access to the Orisent app on Android and iPhone, and our proactive monitoring service.Three connection routes work:
  • Your existing business Wi-Fi, Ethernet or SIM
  • A SIM card from us on a monthly data plan
  • A 3G/4G Telstra data SIM or dongle where signal is poor
Our sales team can work out which suits your site. Call 1800 273 473.

When you need a TCU

Any Orisent system using mesh radio frequency devices needs a TCU to manage it. The exception is the basic standalone setup, which runs on triggers and sirens alone. If you're running standalone triggers and sirens and don't need status visibility or activity logging, you can skip it. If you need either, you need this.Tell us how many devices you're running and where, and we'll confirm whether a TCU is required for your configuration. Call 1800 273 473 or send us the site details.
