Smoke Alarm Power Cut-Off Module

A smoke alarm power cut off module switches off mains supply to a circuit the moment a connected smoke detector goes into alarm. It works alongside a detector you already have, so the detection stays where it is and gains a second action beyond making noise.

What Happens When the Detector Sounds

A standard smoke alarm warns people. This module warns people and removes power from the circuit at the same time. That takes the ignition source out of an electrical fire before anyone reaches the switchboard.That matters most where the people in the building cannot act quickly. What It Needs to Work

The module pairs with detectors that have an interlink terminal, and it suits many brands rather than one. Order it with a detector or on its own where the detectors are already in place.Two conditions apply. The detector must carry approval to AS 3786, the Australian Standard for smoke alarms. A licensed electrician must install the module, because it switches mains supply.

The Risk It Does Not Cover

Unattended cooking causes about half of NSW home fires, a larger share than electrical ignition. A power cut off module does nothing about a pan left on the stove.
