Description

Cygnus SiteProtect Input/Output Interface Unit CYGIOU4

The CYGIOU4 fire alarm interface unit connects the Cygnus mesh network to the systems already installed on your site. It handles inputs and outputs both ways, so an existing hardwired fire alarm can trigger the Cygnus network, and a Cygnus evacuation can drive turnstiles, door releases and other connected equipment. The unit sits in an IP65 enclosure and runs on a single battery pack.

Specifications

  • Standalone interface device for external and existing systems
  • Connects to existing fire alarm systems
  • Connects to turnstile entry systems
  • Connects to door release systems
  • Connects to biometric security systems
  • IP65 enclosure, waterproof and dustproof for outdoor installation
  • Single battery pack, at least 12 months life in normal operation
  • Acts as a repeater station, so no signal boosters are needed
  • Over 1km range on line of sight installations with no obstructions

Why the interface matters at the gate

A site-wide evacuation stops being orderly the moment people reach a turnstile that's still counting them through one at a time. Wire the turnstiles through the CYGIOU4 and the evacuation signal drops them to free egress. The same logic applies to any door release holding a fire door or a security door on the escape route.

Layering wireless over a system you already have

Buildings under refurbishment and staged handovers often run a permanent fire alarm in the completed sections and nothing in the works area. The CYGIOU4 lets the two talk instead of running as separate systems that nobody links. An activation in either one raises the alarm in both, which removes the gap where people in one half of the building don't hear what's happening in the other.

What the interface needs from you

The unit is a wireless bridge, not a design. The connection to an existing fire alarm system needs a fire contractor who can work on that panel, and any change to a certified system needs recording against its maintenance and compliance documentation. Get your fire contractor and your certifier across the interface before you commission it, because a modification nobody documented becomes a defect at the next inspection.

Where the CYGIOU4 fits in the system

The interface reports through the CYG14 control panel alongside every other device, so integration events land in the same log as call point activations. The full Cygnus SiteProtect range shows the devices it can trigger, and our wireless alarm systems page sets out how integration compares against Orisent.

Your emergency plan obligations

Regulation 43 of the model WHS Regulations requires you to prepare, maintain and implement an emergency plan. Safe Work Australia's guidance on emergency plan duties requires you to plan for people with hearing, vision or mobility impairment, and access control is exactly where a mobility-impaired worker gets stuck. An interface that releases the doors on evacuation is part of answering that requirement.Call 1800 273 473 or email sales@checkpointgroup.com.au with the systems you need to connect, and we'll tell you what the interface can and can't do.
