Description

CYG24-85 Evacuation/Fire Alarm Call Point Alarm Device – PIR Motion Sensor Optional.

The CYG24-85 is an 85dB fire call point alarm for spaces where 110 dB would be too much (both A-weighted, which is how human hearing perceives loudness). It raises the same site-wide alert as the louder version and sits on the same mesh network. Two differences matter when you're specifying: this unit has no strobe, and it carries spare input terminals for monitoring external systems.

Where 110 dB(A) causes problems

Site offices, meeting rooms, fitted-out floors and confined spaces are all places where a 110 dB(A) siren is loud enough to be a hazard rather than a warning. Alarm volume close to the ear can cause hearing damage and can make people freeze rather than move. Match the sound pressure to the space, and use the louder unit outdoors and on open floors.

The spare inputs are worth knowing about

This version carries input terminals that let it monitor an external system and report through the Cygnus network. It's a smaller-scale version of what the CYGIOU4 interface unit does, built into a call point you were fitting anyway. Worth asking about if you have a single piece of equipment that needs monitoring in a location where a call point already sits.

Where the CYG24-85 fits alongside the rest

Use it indoors and in confined areas, and use the 110 dB(A) call point with strobe outdoors and in high-noise areas. Most sites run both, positioned by area rather than standardised across the site. Compare the whole device set in the Cygnus SiteProtect range.

No strobe means checking your coverage

Without a strobe, this unit gives you one alert channel. On a floor where someone might be wearing hearing protection or working alone in a noisy plant room, put a 110 dB(A) unit with a strobe within sight instead. The quieter unit suits spaces where people can hear normally and would notice a tone.

Your emergency plan obligations

Regulation 43 of the model WHS Regulations requires you to prepare, maintain and implement an emergency plan. Safe Work Australia's guidance on emergency plan duties requires you to plan for people with hearing, vision or mobility impairment, which is the reason to think about strobe coverage area by area rather than fitting one device type everywhere.Call 1800 273 473 or email sales@checkpointgroup.com.au and we'll split the device types across your site by noise level and space type.
