Cygnus SiteProtect Control Panel CYG16 (Old CYG64)

The CYG16 is the small site alarm control panel in the Cygnus range, replacing the CYG64. It connects up to 32 devices on one zone and runs the same radio mesh network as the larger panels, with the same 1km line of sight range and no repeaters. What it doesn't do is expand. The software is fixed at manufacture and can't be upgraded later, so the panel suits sites that already know their ceiling.

Site types the CYG16 handles

The panel suits construction sites, warehouses and factories, mines, shipyards, railways, underground works, shopping centres and universities where the device count stays under 32 and a single zone gives you enough location detail. On a single-building fit-out or a compact yard, one zone is usually all the granularity you need, because everyone knows where the alarm is.

Where the CYG16 runs out of room

Two limits matter when you're specifying. The first is the 32 device ceiling with no headroom above it. The second is that the software is fixed, so you can't add SMS, radio voice or pager broadcast modules later. If either of those looks tight against your programme, the CYG14 panel gives you 480 devices, 15 zones and module capability from day one. Battery backup runs shorter than the CYG14

The CYG16 holds up for a week without mains power, where the CYG14 holds up for a month. On a site with reliable supply that difference rarely surfaces. On a remote site or one where the temporary supply goes down over a shutdown, it matters, and you should size the panel against the outage you can realistically expect.

Emergency plan obligations

Regulation 43 of the model WHS Regulations requires you to prepare, maintain and implement an emergency plan, whatever the size of the site. Safe Work Australia's guidance on emergency plan duties names a siren or bell alarm as the alerting mechanism and requires you to test your procedures at a stated frequency.
