This 4ft emergency light batten combines general lighting and emergency escape lighting in one fitting. It runs 20 W of LED strip on mains power. On battery it holds 3 hours of emergency output, against a 90 minute minimum in AS/NZS 2293. The body measures 1210 mm long, 75 mm wide and 65 mm high.

One fitting instead of two

Most corridors and back-of-house areas carry a general light and a separate emergency luminaire. This batten does both jobs. You halve the fixing points, halve the cable runs and halve the number of items on the maintenance schedule.That last point matters more than the first two. Every emergency fitting on site needs a monthly visual check and a six-monthly 90 minute discharge test, logged and kept. Fewer fittings means a shorter test round.

Tri-colour on site

The colour temperature switches between 3000 K, 4000 K and 6500 K at the fitting.

• 3000 K reads warm and suits front-of-house and accommodation
• 4000 K is the usual choice for offices, corridors and retail
• 6500 K is cold and bright, and suits workshops, stores and plant areas

One stock line then covers a whole building. The specifier picks the temperature; the electrician sets it at install.

Build and electrical

The body and diffuser are impact resistant polycarbonate. A constant current driver holds output steady as the LED ages and as supply voltage moves. The LED source runs to 50,000 hours and the battery is lithium.The IP rating is IP20, so this fitting goes indoors. Ceiling and wall mounting both work. SafeWork NSW makes adequate lighting a PCBU duty, and expects a competent person to test and maintain emergency lighting.This is a maintained fitting. It runs on the normal lighting circuit and the emergency module takes over on mains failure.

Options

A plug-in microwave sensor adds occupancy switching on mains power. For external or wash-down positions, order the weatherproof version instead.
