Plug-In Microwave Sensor

This plug-in microwave sensor adds occupancy switching to a compatible emergency light batten. It plugs straight into the batten. No separate wiring run, no ceiling penetration, no extra enclosure. The module measures 24 mm by 75 mm by 37 mm.

What it controls, and what it does not

The sensor governs how the batten behaves on mains power. It holds the fitting at a reduced standby output while the space is empty. Movement brings it to full output.Emergency operation sits separately. On mains failure, an emergency luminaire must deliver its rated output for the full duration set by AS/NZS 2293. Occupancy has nothing to do with it.Occupancy switching is an energy strategy for normal running. It is not a compliance feature. State that on the specification, because a certifier will ask.

A 360 degree pattern suits a corridor, a stairwell landing, a store room or a car park aisle. People approach those spaces from any direction.Microwave detection also reads movement through thin partitions and around obstructions. Infrared does not. Check adjacent spaces when you set sensitivity, or the light in one room will answer to footsteps in the next. SafeWork NSW treats adequate lighting as a PCBU duty, and a sensor that holds a working area dark is a hazard rather than a saving.

Where it fits

Back-of-house areas that sit empty for long stretches and still need light on demand. Plant rooms, loading corridors, storage aisles, stairwells and after-hours office floors.

Compatible battens

The sensor plugs into the premium 4ft and premium 2ft emergency light battens, in standard and weatherproof formats. The light is not included. Order it with the batten, or add it later.
