Description

The ORI-33 connects to the Orisent cloud server through a built-in IoT SIM. It doesn't join the local mesh, which means it doesn't depend on any other device to work. That's a structural difference, not a feature difference. A mesh device is only as good as its link to the next device. A cellular device only needs a mobile signal. Put one in a compound 3 kilometres from the site office and it behaves exactly as it would in the next room.

Specifications

  • Internal IoT SIM connecting through the cloud
  • Operates independently of other devices on the system
  • Immediate alerts to the TCU, the smartphone app, or both
  • Visual and audio confirmation for the person who raised the alert
  • Alert carries device identity and location
  • Responders accept or decline, then log a report
  • Self-monitoring for battery and signal status
  • Large backboard for straightforward mounting
Requires an IoT SIM card and active Subscription Services. Real-time device updates also need the TCU connected to the internet.

Mixing cellular and radio frequency

You don't have to choose one. Most sites of any size shouldn't.Run radio frequency across the main work areas where devices sit within reach of each other, then use cellular for the outliers: the remote compound, the satellite building, the section of the site where the mesh keeps dropping. Because cellular devices don't join the mesh, adding one doesn't disturb anything already working. That mixed approach usually costs less than forcing full cellular coverage across a site that mostly doesn't need it.

Where cellular is the only sensible answer

  • Work zones too far apart to hold a mesh link
  • Sites where the office sits outside radio frequency range
  • Layouts with no useful intermediate positions to build a mesh through
  • Small projects where a full system was never going to be justified
  • Assets that are unmanned for long stretches
The last one is underrated. A device that self-monitors battery and signal will tell you it's failing. On an unmanned asset, that's the only way you'll find out before someone needs it.

Signal is the constraint

Cellular removes the range limit between devices. It replaces it with a different one: the device has to hold a mobile signal.Check coverage at the actual mounting position, not at the site entrance. Basements, tank farms, deep excavations and steel-framed structures all attenuate signal. Where the position won't hold a connection, radio frequency back to a device that can reach the network is the better answer.Under regulation 43 of the model WHS Regulations, the duty to provide for medical treatment and assistance applies across the whole workplace. It doesn't stop at the edge of your mesh network.Tell us where your coverage gaps are and we'll work out how many cellular devices close them. Call 1800 273 473 or send through the site boundaries.
