Description

Subscription Services cover three things: the Orisent smartphone app, the web-based user portal, and any cellular trigger or siren on your system. If your configuration includes any of those, you need a subscription. This was previously called the Software Management Agreement, or SMA.Read that first line carefully if you're specifying cellular hardware. The subscription isn't an upgrade on top of cellular devices. It's the thing that makes them work.

What a subscription covers

  • Smartphone app for iOS and Android
  • Web-based user portal
  • Operation of cellular triggers and sirens
  • Centralised management of nurse call and evacuation alerts
  • Device settings and user integrations from one place
  • Real-time alert delivery and response
  • SMS notifications to nominated personnel
  • System activity logs for reporting and auditing

What you can do without one

Quite a lot, if your system is radio frequency only.A standalone setup with triggers and sirens runs with no subscription at all. Add a Touchscreen Control Unit and you get device status, activity logging and evacuation authority, still with no subscription. The TCU handles all of that on its own.The subscription buys you reach. Access from off site, alerts to phones rather than a screen in the office, and the cellular hardware that removes range limits between devices.

Deciding whether you need one

Work through it in this order:
  1. Does your system include any cellular device? You need a subscription.
  2. Does anyone need to receive alerts when they're not on site? You need a subscription.
  3. Do responders need to accept or decline a nurse call from their phone? You need a subscription.
  4. Is the system radio frequency only, managed from a TCU on site? You probably don't.
Multi-site operators tend to need it. Single-site radio frequency installations often don't.

Logs, audits and testing records

Regulation 43 of the model WHS Regulations requires you to test your emergency procedures and to record how often you'll do it. Safe Work Australia's emergency plans guidance sets out what your plan has to cover. Both the TCU and the portal log system activity with timestamps. The difference is where you can get at it. If your safety manager sits in a head office three states away and needs testing records for six sites, portal access is worth the monthly cost on its own.Give us your device list and how many people need remote access, and we'll confirm which tier your system needs. Call 1800 273 473 or send the list through.
