AS 2444 accepts two mounting methods for a portable extinguisher: a support bracket, or a cabinet with the extinguisher facing outward. Fire and Rescue NSW sets the height window a bracket needs to land within. The base of the extinguisher sits no less than 100mm off the floor. The top of the handle sits no higher than 1200mm.Position the bracket where a person can reach it without stepping around stock, furniture or plant. Fire and Rescue NSW cites a minimum 1000mm clearance around the extinguisher as the general benchmark. A corner or a doorway swing close to the bracket can defeat that clearance even when the mounting height is correct.Pair the bracket with a compliant identification sign above it. A bracket alone marks nothing from a distance.
