A fire extinguisher location sign marks where the unit sits, so someone crossing the floor can find it before they can see it. This one is poly, 225mm high and 150mm wide, and mounts indoors or outdoors.

Two Signs, Two Jobs

The location sign and the type identification sign do different work. An audit checks for both.The location sign marks the position from a distance and stays readable over racking, hoarding and stacked materials. The type identification sign goes on or beside the unit and states which fire classes it covers. A worker who reaches the right wall and lifts the wrong extinguisher has half a system.

Where It Mounts

Mount the sign above the extinguisher, high enough to clear stored materials and plant. Our site signage guidance works to 2 to 2.5 metres above floor level. That puts the sign above head height in a workshop and above most racking.Where the extinguisher sits around a corner, behind a column or inside a cabinet, add a sign on the approach as well. A sign that only reads from directly in front of the unit adds nothing to the walk.

Outdoor and Low-Light Positions

Poly holds up outdoors and in wash-down areas where a vinyl sticker lifts at the edges. Plant rooms, basements and back-of-house corridors go dark the moment power drops, and a red sign in an unlit corridor reads as a grey rectangle. Photoluminescent signage suits those positions.

The Sign Marks a Unit That Has to Be Right

AS 2444 puts travel distance for Class A risks at no more than 15 metres, measured along the path a person walks. It mounts the extinguisher with the base at least 100mm clear of the floor and the handle top no higher than 1,200mm. Signage marks a unit that already meets those rules. An inspector checks the position before the sticker.
