Commander™ 1.8m x 1.8m Fire Blanket

The 1.8m x 1.8m fire blanket is the largest square blanket in the Commander range. Woven fibreglass smothers a fire by cutting off the oxygen feeding it. The extra reach suits commercial kitchens, workshops and site amenities. A smaller blanket can leave the edges of a burning pan exposed.Manufacture sits under AS/NZS 3504. Selection and location sit under AS 2444, which covers fire blankets alongside portable extinguishers. Fire and Rescue NSW directs duty holders to that same standard for both classes of equipment.

How to use it

1. Turn off the heat source first if you can reach the control safely.
2. Hold the blanket by the two protective corner flaps.
3. Keep your hands and forearms shielded behind the material as you approach.
4. Lay the blanket over the fire and lower it gently. Do not throw it.
5. Leave the blanket in place until the fire is out and the surface has gone cold.
6. Call 000 and get people out if the flames do not die immediately.

Lifting the blanket early lets air back to the fuel. A cooking oil fire can reignite in seconds.

A fire blanket answers a small fire that is still contained. Cooking oil and fat, a burning bin, clothing alight on a person. Mounting and service

Mount the blanket on the escape side of the risk, never above the stove. Nobody should reach across flames to grab one. Commercial premises need a location sign at the blanket position, and routine service intervals follow AS 1851. We run scheduled service programmes for fire equipment across Australia.
