1.2m x 1.2m Fire Blanket

This 1.2m x 1.2m fire blanket is made from woven fibreglass and manufactured to AS/NZS 3504, the Australian and New Zealand Standard for fire blankets. The size suits a domestic cooktop, a crib room or a small commercial kitchen.

Where to Mount It

The recommended location is to put the blanket on the wall near the entryway of the kitchen. Keep it away from the oven, the stovetop and the space under the sink, because a fire in any of those positions puts itself between you and the blanket.The blanket must be easily accessible, not in a place that becomes inaccessible due to a stove fire.

How to Use It

Pull the tabs to release the blanket from its pouch. Hold one tab in each hand and rotate your hands inwards so the material covers them.Place the blanket over the fire from the near edge to the far edge. Never throw it. Keep the edges clear of the flames, because fire runs up a trailing edge toward your hands.Turn off the heat once the blanket is over the flames. Queensland Fire Department recommends leaving the blanket where it sits for at least 15 minutes, or until the heat has gone, and to call Triple Zero. Lifting it early lets oxygen back in and the oil relights.Leave the pan alone until it has cooled completely.

Order the size that covers your largest pan with room to spare on every side. A blanket that only just reaches leaves an edge for the flames.

One Use Only

Replace the blanket after any use. Heat weakens the fibres and soot and oil contaminate them, so a used blanket is a blanket you cannot rely on twice.In a workplace, fire blankets fall under AS 1851 routine service alongside your extinguishers, which is why a maintenance tag should be purchased and kept with the blanket.
