Emergency Exit Light – Weatherproof

Weatherproof Emergency Exit Light

This weatherproof exit light carries an IP65 rating. It suits a loading dock, an external stair, a car park deck, a plant room or a wash-down area. The housing measures 381 mm long, 98 mm wide and 162 mm high, in polycarbonate body and diffuser.

Why IP65 matters outside

IP65 means dust tight, and protected against water jets from any direction. Put an IP20 fitting in the same position and it collects moisture. Terminals corrode. The unit then fails its next 90 minute discharge test with no outward warning. The decals here resist heat as well as UV. That is the difference between a sign still reading clearly in year eight and one bleached to a pale square. Three come in the box: standard running man, running man with left arrow, and running man with right arrow.

Compliance figures

The fitting carries a 24 metre viewing distance. It runs 3 hours in emergency mode against a 90 minute minimum under AS/NZS 2293.Mount it between 2.0 and 2.7 metres above floor level. Ceiling and wall mounting both work, which helps on external walls with limited soffit depth.Check the approach distance for every external exit before ordering. A 24 metre sign will not cover a 40 metre yard run. Auditors find that one often on industrial sites, where the building envelope changed after fit-out.

Build and service life

The LED source runs to 50,000 hours. The battery is lithium. This is a maintained fitting. It runs on the normal lighting circuit and switches to its emergency module when mains power fails.AS/NZS 2293.2 calls for a monthly visual inspection and a six-monthly 90 minute discharge test, logged on site. SafeWork NSW requires a competent person to do that work. Give external fittings a closer look at the annual inspection, because seal condition drives everything else. The full exit and emergency lighting range covers indoor mounting options.
