Two controls

A panel with menus and submenus works fine during a walkthrough with the installer. It works less well at 3am when the person standing in front of it started on site yesterday. The Evac + gives you one control to raise a site-wide evacuation and one to silence the system afterwards, which removes the training burden that puts most temporary alarm panels out of action.

Where the Evac + fits and where it doesn't

Choose it for short-duration sites, single-contractor jobs, and anywhere the evacuation alarm is the whole requirement. It won't cover you if you need first aid and nurse call reporting split from evacuation, if you need zones, or if you want SMS and radio broadcast. For those, look at the CYG14 panel or work through the full Cygnus SiteProtect range to see which devices report where.

Running your drills through the panel

The evacuation function drives both real events and rehearsals, so the tone your people hear during a drill is the tone they'll hear in an incident. That matters more than it sounds, because a workforce that has only ever heard a different test tone loses seconds working out what they're listening to.

Emergency plan obligations

Regulation 43 of the model WHS Regulations requires you to prepare, maintain and implement an emergency plan. Safe Work Australia's guidance on emergency plan duties names a siren or bell alarm as the mechanism for alerting people to an emergency and requires you to test your emergency procedures at a stated frequency. The Evac + covers the alerting mechanism and the drill, though you'll need to log the tests yourself.Call 1800 273 473 or email sales@checkpointgroup.com.au and we'll tell you whether the Evac + covers your site or whether you need zoning.
