Fire Warden Responder Station

What AS 3745 Expects of a Warden

AS 3745-2010 Planning for emergencies in facilities sets out how Australian facilities structure an emergency control organisation, or ECO. The Safe Work Australia model code of practice for managing the work environment and facilities points to the same standard.Two of those requirements decide what a warden carries.

• Identification. Members of the ECO must be identifiable to occupants and to arriving emergency services. The standard sets out a colour code, and the emergency planning committee records the colours the facility uses.
• Communication. Your emergency plan must provide for communication between the person coordinating the response and everyone at the workplace. A megaphone and an airhorn cover that in open, noisy or outdoor areas where a public address system does not reach.

Check the Warden Colour Before You Order

Colour carries meaning under AS 3745-2010, and the convention applied across Australian facilities runs as follows.

• White identifies the chief warden and the deputy chief warden.
• Yellow identifies a floor warden or an area warden.
• Red identifies a warden.
• Green identifies a first aid officer.

If you are outfitting a chief warden or a floor warden, order the matching white or yellow items instead, and keep the colours consistent with the emergency plan your emergency planning committee has documented. What the Extinguisher Covers

The 4.5kg ABE unit handles Class A, B and E fires: timber and general combustibles, flammable liquids, and energised electrical equipment. AS 2444 sets where that extinguisher mounts and how far anyone should walk to reach one, and the station does not change those rules for the fixed extinguishers on your walls.The ABE unit does not suit a lithium-ion battery incident. Where your site charges power tool packs, e-bikes or radio batteries, the lithium battery fire safety station carries the containment equipment for that hazard instead.
